GLCC Lone Tree Point

In 1887, Victor Lawson and friends were fishing at the lake’s west end when a storm rolled in.  Victor and his party were forced off the lake and found shelter in a small boathouse on this point. Later he took his wife to this spot, they both liked it so well that they decided to buy it. They originally purchased 10 acres from Henry P. Cody of Ripon for $1429. The original parcel included the point and the land to where the greenhouse stands today.
In 1903, a Chicago firm was hired to deepen the bay and the channel between the point and the island. At that time, they enlarged the island and enclosed it with a boulder wall. The cost of the dredging and seawall around the island was reported to be $50,000.
